Automate the steps leading up to the migration

Swimage ensures 100% success in deployments in part to the automated workflow that precedes all deployments. We focus not only on the advanced technical capability to migrate data, applications, and settings, but we also consider the user’s experience so we can ensure the migration has minimal impact for them.

Swimage employs the T-minus scheduler to handle all pre migration tasks on a predefined schedule as an offset to the deployment date.

Achieve 100% deployment success

With the T-minus workflow process enabled in Swimage, the day of migration will run like clockwork. Users are all prepared and ready for the migration, they understand the process and what to expect with the new image. Additionally, no migration failures will occur, so when the users log back into their PC (in just about 90 minutes after it begins), their is little to no interruption in their productivity. All apps will be reinstalled, all data will be migrated.

Automated email communication

With this, you can set up a communication plan that will automate user messaging at various intervals prior to their migration. For instance, at T-minus 30 days, (30 days before the scheduled migration) Swimage can send a custom message to the user preparing them for the migration. Training, instructions, or other information about their migration can be included in the message. The T-minus schedule can have as many messages at whatever intervals you wish. Our typical communication configuration includes a message at T-minus 30, 15, 7, and one day prior to the migration. With this process, all messaging is consistent and no one is missed. Properly setting the user’s expectation for the migration is key in how successful the migration is perceived by the user. Without this, the process can be technically flawless but can be perceived negatively only because the “change” was not communicated well.

Execute dry-run deployments to ensure success

In addition to the T-minus communication, Swimage allows for a pre-validation process to execute at various intervals prior to the migration. The pre-validation is a complete deployment dry-run, using the defined computers’ Future State as the configuration template. This process runs completely silent to the user, collecting data and reporting success back to the Swimage server.

This process has two primary objectives:

1) Collect data to help plan for the upcoming deployment

2) Report any failures with any of the deployment components to that they can be resolved prior to the migration. When fully utilized, this process will ensure that every PC will complete without fail.
